Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker is scheduled to provide his first COVID-19 update of 2021 on Monday.

According to his office, Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito will join Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders for a 12:30 p.m. press conference at the State House in Boston.

On Sunday, Massachusetts reported 3,110 new COVID-19 infections and 105 additional deaths due to the disease. The state’s rate of positive COVID-19 tests and hospitalizations have also continued to climb to levels not seen since the initial spring surge, as vaccination efforts slowly ramp up.

Baker — who has tightened several statewide restrictions on private gatherings and businesses in response to the second surge — has urged residents not to let their guard down this winter; officials have said the COVID-19 vaccine won’t be widely available until at least the spring.

“The virus is very much still with us and will be with us for the next few months,” Baker said last week.
