Massachusetts officials are reporting 276 new positive coronavirus cases among students and 251 new cases among staff at public school districts across the Bay state.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released its weekly report Thursday on COVID-19 in schools, which only reflects confirmed coronavirus cases reported by districts to state officials between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2. Being just over two months since the state began releasing the data, this new report brings the combined total of cases among students to 1,884 and 1,284 among staff.
The data reflects cases reported at charter schools, collaboratives, and approved special education schools, though it excludes any COVID-19 diagnoses for students learning in fully remote models. The numbers also exclude any diagnoses for “staff that have not been in district buildings during the seven days prior to the report of the positive case.”
According to the state, the districts reporting more than a handful of cases include:
Abington (5 among students and 3 among staff), Auburn (4 among students and 5 among staff), Cambridge (3 among students and 6 among staff), Fall River (8 among staff), Haverhill (2 among students and 6 among staff), Holyoke (2 among students and 5 among staff), Mansfield (6 among students and 2 among staff), Marshfield (5 among students and 2 among staff), Methuen (22 among students and 6 among staff), New Bedford (15 among students and 9 among staff), Peabody (7 among students and 1 among staff), Quincy (5 among students and 6 among staff), Uxbridge (4 among students and 3 among staff), Wellesley (5 among students and 2 among staff), Groton-Dunstable (8 among students and 1 among staff), Triton (3 among students and 5 among staff).
The co-ed therapeutic boarding school, JRI Meadowridge Swansea Wood School, also reported 17 cases among students and 11 among staff.
