“It’s magical, it’s lyrical, and it’s beautiful.”

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker took a moment Thursday during his daily coronavirus press conference to give a movie recommendation as everyone stays home to slow the spread of the illness.

The conversation turned to books and entertainment after Secretary of Health and Human Services Marylou Sudders urged everyone to take care of their mental health as the pandemic continues, suggesting breaks from the news and connecting with friends.

Baker shared that his daughter has started a book club with her friends as a way of staying in touch, remarking that the new social reading habit “might be the only good thing I can think of that’s come out of all this.”

In response to a question from a reporter about what he has been watching lately, the governor gave a glowing recommendation for “The Biggest Little Farm,” a documentary released last year.

“It’s one of the best documentaries ever,” he said. “It’s magical, it’s lyrical, and it’s beautiful.”

The film follows a California couple who decide to start a sustainable farm outside Los Angeles. The documentary is available to stream on Hulu, or it can be watched for $3.99 on several platforms, including YouTube and Amazon Prime.

“It’s about two people who lived in an apartment in Santa Monica, they got a dog from a pound,” Baker said, giving his own synopsis of the story. “They loved the dog, but every time they left the apartment to go to work the dog would start barking and it would bark until they came home. So they eventually got an eviction notice from their landlord and it was either the dog or they had to move. And at that point in time they decided that they would get a series of investors and go do something they’d always wanted to do, which was create a natural farm.

“It’s awesome,” he concluded. “I would highly recommend it to anybody.”

The governor said he is not — like so many others — watching the Netflix series “Ozark,” which stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. Bateman plays a financial adviser who moves his family to the Ozarks, where he launders money to appease a drug boss.

“I could only watch a few episodes of ‘Ozark’ before I decided that if I kept watching, I was going to have to jump off the roof of my house, which would be bad for my mental health,” Baker said.
