Dr. Anthony Fauci, in a conversation with MSNBC’s Brian Williams that aired on Friday, said he’s hoping for a “real degree of normality” by November.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, declined to comment specifically about the presidential election, but he offered some insight into what society as a whole could look like by that time.

“If you had your way, and I know November to a lot of people seems like a long time from now, would people in all 50 states have the right and ability to vote by mail?” Williams asked.

“Again, Brian, that’s not my area of expertise,” Fauci said. “I would hope that by November we would have things under such control that we can have a real degree of normality. That’s my interest, and my job, as a public health person.”
