Tyler, The Creator surprises fans with Halloween concert in Boston

Tyler, The Creator surprised fans with a pop-up concert, featuring a set from his new album, “Chromakopia,” on Halloween in Boston on Lovejoy Wharf.

The American rapper, who wears many hats as a record producer, director, fashion designer, and the head of his own independent record label, performed on the roof of the Converse Flagship Store on Thursday afternoon.

The concert, scheduled for 3 p.m., was announced the day of on Tyler, The Creator’s Instagram story, which read, “Don’t be late. Show will start on the dot.”

Tyler the Creator wrote, produced, and arranged all the songs on his eighth album released Monday and reached No. 6 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart for his song, “Noid.”

Tyler, The Creator performed on the shoe store’s roof atop a green shipping container with the name of his album, “Chromakopia,” across the side in black lettering. He wore an all-green outfit and a mask that he removed while singing, “Take Your Mask Off.”

Tickets were initially selling for $5, but most concert-goers bought theirs for a resale price. Crowds lined the streets outside the venue near the wharf, next door to TD Garden.

Vincent Medina, who paid $50 for a ticket and said he missed a class at UMass Boston to attend the show, said he “couldn’t believe it” when he heard that Tyler, the Creator was set to perform in Boston.

“I just feel so lucky,” Medina told Boston.com. “I can’t stop smiling.”

For those unable to attend the Halloween pop-up, Chromakopia: The World Tour includes Boston shows at TD Garden on July 8 and 9.
