In defense of bros everywhere

Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski: Bros just being bros. YouTube

The bro-bashing that’s currently running rampant through the Internet has reached a fever pitch, and quite frankly I am fed up.

When the Entourage film was on the horizon, the bro bashers smelled the blood for months. Since its release on June 3, the fierce, snarky critics have circled the wagons, and are feasting on an innocent pack of dudes that enjoy the concept of having good times, telling jokes and just plain partying.

I’ve been using the word bromance for more than a decade. And now it’s being used against me. For what? What have I done?

Even king bro Rob Gronkowski, obviously affected by this trend of bro-bashing, recently asked the question: “What have I really done besides dance?’’

You’ve just been awesome, Gronk — apparently something that’s frowned upon these days.

I remember finding Entourage on-demand late one night in my Everett apartment after the first season wrapped up. I watched it through the night, and from there, Vincent Chase and his crew became an essential part of my Sunday nights.

Am I a bro? You’re damn right I’m a bro. I don’t wear pastel-colored shirts and don’t add a lot of dressing to the salad – but bro is not a look, it’s a state of mind.

I enjoy hours upon hours of beer pong that includes chest bumps with every ball dropped. You can replace pong with any number of activities – beer die, Kan Jam, bags, whatever. Just give me a sunny day, a cooler, a diverse selection of games and a pack of bros – and just watch the good, no GREAT, times unfold.

Chest bump. Now rock-paper-scissors to see who throws first.

So I stand before you, as a bro with a simple request: Let’s end the bashing madness right here, right now. It’s going to be a nice weekend and I just picked up some fresh charcoal.

Let’s party.
