Shark sightings prompt closures at multiple beaches on Cape Cod
Beaches were closed to swimmers in Truro, Wellfleet, and Orleans on Thursday.
Multiple shark sightings prompted the temporary closure of several beaches Thursday on Cape Cod.

According to Sharktivity, the app from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy that tracks shark movements and sightings, multiple shark sightings were reported off Head of Meadow Beach and Coast Guard Beach in Truro, leading the beach to be closed until at least noon for swimming. Nauset Public Beach in Orleans and both Wellfleet’s Newcomb Hollow Beach and Maguire Landing Beach also halted swimming after shark sightings before noon.
A Massachusetts State Police helicopter also reported a shark off Cahoon Beach in Wellfleet.
A total of eight confirmed sightings were reported Thursday through Sharktivity.

Sharks aren’t the only ones out in the water today. The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy shared video footage on Thursday of researchers tagging a shark off of Nauset Beach.
