The shuttered Showcase Cinema de Lux Randolph has a new owner after a $9 million sale, but the fate of the former theater remains unknown.
State land records show that National Amusements sold the property on March 18 to a Boston-based real estate developer, Core Investments.
David Pogorelc, the CEO and founder of CORE Investments, said in an email to Boston.com that the company is in talks with a potential tenant but isn’t ready to reveal what’s next.
Atlantic Capital Partners brokered the sale of 73 Mazzeo Drive.
“For years, the seller operated a highly successful movie theatre chain throughout the region with Randolph serving as one of the chain’s most productive sites in all of New England,” David Smookler, a partner at Atlantic, said in a statement.
The movie theater has a total of 112,265 square feet on a 13.48-acre site. The three-level theater opened in 1997 with 16 screens, seating over 2,000 people.
The site sits along Route 139, a major commercial corridor off Route 24.
“The site features tremendous infrastructure and access to the communities south of Boston, which will present the buyer with optionality on how they elect to reenvision the site, should they elect to forego the option of simply re-leasing the cinema to another operator,” Justin Smith, head of capital markets at Atlantic, said in a statement.
The movie theater’s last day of operations was on March 1.
National Amusements was acquired by Paramount Skydance in 2025 for $2.4 billion.
The closure of Showcase Cinema de Lux Randolph leaves it with only seven other locations in the state, with four in New York, one in Rhode Island, and one in Ohio.
