The company is part of a recent trend of pharmaceutical companies tightening their belts.

A Cambridge-based pharmaceutical company is laying off close to a hundred employees.

Ono Pharma USA, a subsidiary of the Japanese pharmaceutical company of the same name, filed with the state last week that it will lay off 83 employees by June 30.

Ono Pharma develops medicines across oncology, neurology, immunology, and specialty drugs.

According to the company’s U.S. website, it was founded in 1717 in Osaka, Japan.

The company has 3,853 employees internationally and a capital of 17.358 billion yen, equivalent to approximately $121.5 million, as of 2024. Besides Cambridge, the company also has subsidiaries in London, Seoul, and Taipei.
