Informa TechTarget, a Mass. pioneer in remote work, is calling its workers back to office

The change comes after the company’s recent merger.

Workers at Newton-based Informa TechTarget are the latest batch of employees expected to return to the office this year.

The policy turnaround occurred only a few months after TechTarget merged with digital businesses at the UK-based Informa PLC.

Before the merger, employees touted TechTarget for allowing them the flexibility to work remotely in job reviews posted online

“As we seek to create our new company, Informa TechTarget, our goal is to spend more time together and in person with customers, partners and each other because we believe it increases collaboration, deepens connections and sparks innovation,” the company said in a statement.

Workers who are not designated as “home workers will spend at least three days a week out in the market with customers and partners” or in the office, the statement said.

Return to office:

The company said the changes will go into effect in the middle of this year.

Informa TechTarget is an information and marketing company headquartered in Newton, with offices in 19 global locations.

According to a December announcement on the merger, Informa TechTarget now employs more than 2,000 people and serves 7,500 customers worldwide.

The shift continues five years after the COVID-19 pandemic, with more employers requiring more days in the office.

A January Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce survey shows that 85% of organizations embrace hybrid models, with 57% spending more days in the office than remotely.

Dell recently announced that its hybrid and remote employees will be expected to return to the office full-time starting in March. Companies like JPMorgan, Amazon, and AT&T have also made similar moves to limit or eliminate remote work.

But not everyone is happy with the changes. Boston.com readers recently shared how they prefer hybrid work over total return-to-office. Most said they currently use a hybrid model.
