A Massachusetts Kohl’s is among the dozens of “underperforming” locations that will close by April, the company announced last week.
Kohl’s revealed the list of 27 shuttering stores on Thursday. The retailer’s Stoughton location at 501 Technology Center Drive is among those that will close.
“While Kohl’s continues to believe in the health and strength of its profitable store base, these specific locations were underperforming stores,” the company said.
The company said it has informed affected employees and offered a severance package “or the ability to apply to other open roles at Kohl’s.”
“We always take these decisions very seriously,” Tom Kingsbury, Kohl’s chief executive officer, said in a statement. “As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams.”
Kohl’s has posted 11 consecutive quarters of sales declines and this week, the retailer is being taken over by a new chief executive, according to the Associated Press.
The announcement from Kohl’s came the same day that Macy’s disclosed the list of 66 stores it previously said would shutter in early 2025. The retailer’s location in Kingston is among those that will close.
