It’s been six years since the retail chain Toys “R” Us and its sibling Babies “R” Us began closing all its stores in the United States.
But Babies “R” Us is being resurrected, at least in the Kohl’s department store. According to a company spokesperson, the store will start stocking its goods in five Massachusetts locations this month.
The assortment of baby brands is available online and will expand to all 200 Kohl’s shops by this fall, according to the company.
The new Babies “R” Us section at Kohls will feature baby gear, activities, baths, furniture, feeding, and apparel. Some top strollers, car seats and bassinets will be on display.
The store also stocks brands such as Nike Baby Essentials, Huggies and Just Born. Little Co. by Lauren Conrad will also expand to more Kohl’s stores.
Last year, Babies “R” Us opened a new flagship store at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey. In 2021, WHP Global, a brand acquisition and management firm, bought Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us from Tru Kids.
Tru Kids bought both chains in a 2018 liquidation sale when the company filed for bankruptcy, according to CNN Business, and attempted to resurrect the toy store chain by opening two locations in New Jersey and Texas in 2019, both of which ultimately failed.
The decision to bring Babies “R” Us into a department store follows WHP Global’s move last year with Macy’s, which expanded the Toys “R” Us brand into every store nationwide.
Here is the list of New England stores opening their Babies “R” Us experience this month:
