Big Lots to close these 5 locations in Mass.

The retail company reported a net loss of over $200 million in the most recent fiscal quarter.

Retail store company Big Lots will close five locations across Massachusetts, the company announced.

They originally announced closures in early July due to financial strain. Webpages for closing locations have a big banner at the top of the page reading “Closing this location!” and offering a deal for 20% off.

The locations closing are in Ashland, Dennis, Northampton, Seekonk and West Springfield. Up to 315 Big Lots locations across 35 states could also close their doors, the company said in an SEC filing.

Big Lots reported a net loss of $205.0 million in the first fiscal quarter of 2024. Net sales decreased by more than 10 percent from 2023 to 2024. In a statement to investors, Bruce Thorn, President and CEO of Big Lots, said the dip in profits is caused by a “pullback in consumer spending.”

Several other large chains have closed locations or ceased operations in Massachusetts this year, including Bob’s Stores, Stop & Shop, and Red Lobster.
