Bob’s Discount Furniture wants you to know it’s not the Bob’s that’s closing

In a statement, the store pleaded with the public to stop confusing the two.

Bob’s Discount Furniture is asking the public to stop accidentally confusing them with the similarly named Bob’s Stores, a discount clothing and shoe retailer that announced last week it is holding a liquidation sale before closing all its stores on July 14.

Bob’s Discount Furniture took to social media to say that it is not, in any way, affiliated with Bob’s Stores.

“We are separate chains owned by separate entities. Bob’s Discount Furniture is open, thriving and growing across the country!”

Headquartered in Manchester, Connecticut, Bob’s Discount Furniture is only a short distance from Bob’s Stores headquarters in Meriden, Connecticut.

It doesn’t help that both Bobs have a sizable presence in New England.

Bob’s Stores is having a going-out-of-business sale at its 21 locations, including six in Massachusetts, 10 in Connecticut, one in Salem, New Hampshire, and one in Cranston, Rhode Island.

Meanwhile, Bob’s Discount Furniture, which is nationwide, sells bargain-priced sofas, bedroom sets, and dining tables at 12 Massachusetts locations and in nearby states such as Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

While one of Bob’s fates has been sealed, Bob’s Discount Furniture is expanding across the region, with 12 new locations slated to open by the end of the year, according to a press release from the company. One of those locations will be in Somerville’s Assembly Row, in the 38,163-square-foot space once occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond.
