Four Seas Ice Cream is up for sale after nearly 90 years of churning homemade ice cream on Cape Cod.

As the owners near retirement, they want to sell the blacksmith shop-turned-ice cream parlor. It is currently on the market for $3.1 million, according to Carey Commercial. Since it’s been up for sale, Carey Commercial has received an influx of calls.

“It’s created a volume of inquiries that I haven’t seen before,” Chuck Carey, the firm’s owner, told Boston.com. “We’ve been swamped for three or four days. It’s been stunning.”

Since its inception Four Seas has been know to serve famous clientele, everyone from Jackie Kennedy to Ryan Reynolds. Back in 2012, Taylor Swift made an appearance with her beau at the time, Conor Kennedy.

“It hasn’t really changed in years and years, and I think the public likes things that are a constant because things rarely are,” said Carey.

According to the property firm, various types of interested parties have made inquiries about buying the shop. Some want to keep it as it is, while others are seeking opportunities to expand the business.

Overall, Carey has identified a buzz in the market about acquiring this family-owned business.

Carey said, “It’s got an incredibly strong mystique, it’s got a romance. It has penetrated people’s hearts.”

Long a favorite of Boston.com readers, Four Seas came in third in last year’s ranking of best ice cream shops on Cape Cod.
