Uber, Drizly to lay off 168 Boston workers
Layoffs will begin in April after Drizly announced it will be shuttering services by the end of March.
Uber is laying off 168 employees from Boston this year, ahead of the closure of its acquired alcohol delivery service Drizly in March, according to the state.
Uber Technologies and Drizly submitted a required notice of layoffs last week, which will begin in April and continue through August.
Drizly announced last month that they will be “slowly” shutting down by the end of March. The Boston-based company was one of the first alcohol delivery services, founded in a Boston College dorm room in 2012.
After a huge boost in sales during the COVID-19 pandemic, Uber acquired Drizly for $1.1 billion in 2021, a year after the ride-sharing giant acquired Postmates.

Drizly laid off about 100 people in March 2023 as the two companies merged, reports said. Now, Drizly points customers to Uber Eats as an alternative.
