Bfresh, a grocery store chain owned by Stop & Shop’s parent company, will close its Allston location by the end of the month.

“Stop & Shop has made the difficult decision not to renew the lease for its Bfresh store on Harvard Avenue in Allston, Massachusetts, as the store was not meeting financial expectations,” the company said in a statement to Boston.com Tuesday. “Stop & Shop intends to operate the store through December 28, 2019.”

Ahold Delhaize, the Dutch company that owns Stop & Shop, opened the Bfresh under its Fresh Formats subsidiary at the former Staples site in 2015. The 10,000-square-foot store emphasizes fresh produce and made-to-order and takeout meals.

Bfresh closed another location in Brighton in 2017. A Somerville location is now the sole Bfresh store listed on the market’s website.

Stop & Shop is pointing Allston Bfresh customers toward its two traditional, big-box stores in the area, at 60 Everett St. in Allston and 155 Harvard St. in Brookline.

“Both of these stores are located less than two miles from the Allston Bfresh location,” the statement says.
