A Massachusetts store is among the latest Sears and Kmart closings
The list of closings includes 45 Kmart and 18 Sears locations.
A Massachusetts store is among the latest round of closings that include 45 Kmart and 18 Sears locations nationwide, Sears Holding Co. announced in a statement on Thursday.
The Sears at the Berkshire Mall in Lanesborough will close in late January 2018, while the the Sears Auto Center at the store will close in early December 2017.
The new round of closings are part of a “strategic assessment” to “right size” its store footprint, according to the statement.
“It’s important to note that these stores will remain open to serve members during the holiday season,” the company said.
Clearance sales at the closing stores will begin as early as Nov. 9. Employees impacted by the closures will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply at other stores.
The announcement comes as Sears and Kmart continue to face years of declining sales, and just a few weeks after the company announced the end of its relationship with Whirlpool.
