L.L. Bean issues recall for kids’ water bottles for lead risk
L.L. Bean has issued a recall for five styles of a kids’ insulated water bottle after lead was detected by the manufacturer in the items.
In a letter to customers, the company said routine testing of the 13.5 ounce bottles found lead in the outside bottom of the container where the outer vacuum layer is sealed:
It was determined that some of the water bottles provided to L.L.Bean were erroneously sealed on the bottom with a solder bead containing lead instead of the lead-free solder bead originally specified. This could potentially expose the user of the bottle to the lead seal on the outside bottom of the water bottle. For your child’s safety, immediately stop using the water bottle and return the bottle to L.L.Bean.
Exposure to lead can severely impact mental and physical development in young children and cause serious health problems in adults. The recall covers about 6,700 bottles that come in five different color prints: dino bones, flower power, orange grid camo, purple tie dye, and robo shark, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Anyone with the item, with the identification number 297684 printed on the bottom of the bottle, is being asked to contact L.L. Bean to return the bottle and receive a full refund.
