The Meadow Glen Mall location would mark the chain’s 5th store in Massachusetts.

The Rochester, New York-based, über-popular grocery chain Wegmans is negotiating for another Massachusetts store in Medford, Vice President of Media Relations Jo Natale confirmed.

In Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn’s final state of the city address on Sunday, he had said, “The Meadow Glen Mall has been permitted for the renovation of 60,000 square feet. Marshalls and Kohl’s will continue their leases, and they are welcoming new tenants, including Wegmans.’’

“I can confirm that negotiations are underway for a site in Medford,’’ Natale said in an email, “but it would be premature to comment further or share details.’’

Wegmans first came to New England in 2011 and opened its fourth Massachusetts store in Westwood on October 11. Wegmans store openings can draw big crowds — when a store opened in Chestnut Hill in April 2014, signs on Route 9 warned of impending traffic delays.

Wegmans currently has Massachusetts locations in Burlington, Chestnut Hill, Northborough, and Westwood, and Boston Business Journalreports that the chain is also looking to open a store in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood, though no lease has been signed yet.
