Heads up, investors. Two Harvard grads are headed your way.
On November 13, Unshrinkit will appear on Shark Tank. The startup was formed in 2014 by two Harvard Business School grads, Desiree Davis Stolar and Nathaniel Barbera. The product, as its name implies, is a chemical solution to ‘unshrink’ wool clothing.
According to Boston Business Journal, since Unshrinkit started selling its product online and on local consumer-product launch website The Grommet, it has sold about 8,000 units at $12 each. Stolar first concocted the idea when she fell victim to a ruined ruined sweater, at which point she brainstormed with classmate Barbera. Now, the duo has U.S. and international patents pending for the chemical ingredient that works miracles on shrunken garments.
“I realized we really have quite a market opportunity here,’’ Barbera told Boston Business Journal.
Unshrinkit isn’t the first local startup to step into the Shark Tank. One of the show’s early success stories was Wicked Good Cupcakes, which got a deal in the tank and has since opened a location in Faneuil Hall marketplace. Others local companies have since tried their luck, and Unshrinkit is next.
