Power yoga founder Baron Baptiste sells Boston-based studios

The Boston Globe

Baron Baptiste has officially said namaste to his Boston-based yoga studios, selling his ownership to two of the studio’s popular instructors.

Husband and wife business partners Gregor Singleton and Claire Este-McDonald, both instructors at the Cambridge and Brookline studios, announced they bought the Boston studios in an email to their member yogis sent on September 14.

“Over the past 15 years our friendship and partnership with Baron has always been characterized by his generosity that encouraged us to explore our own talent, vision and voice in this realm of transformation through Yoga,’’ the email said. “We wish to now bring that to you.’’

Este-McDonald is a certified Baptiste master teacher and was a trauma nurse for more than 20 years. She started to teach Baptiste Yoga in 2000. Singleton was a stage actor in London before finding yoga and moving to the Boston area.

Baptiste created a yoga style that combines classic poses with aerobic exercise called the Baptiste Yoga methodology. He established his first two yoga studios in Boston and his teachings have since expanded to more than 40 locations.

“I am so grateful to the Boston communities that have supported the growth of Baptiste Yoga and I am excited to have my longtime students and teachers, Gregor Singleton & Claire Estes-McDonald, continue sharing Baptiste Yoga in their hometown,’’ Baptiste said in a statement. “This will allow me to focus my energy on my upcoming book, Perfectly Imperfect, published by Hay House and scheduled to come out Spring 2016.’’
