Trump speech at Mass. auto magnate’s home lures pro-choice protesters
Donald Trump—a real estate mogul, reality TV star, and occasional professional wrestling character who is leading the race for the Republican presidential nomination—is bringing his show to Greater Boston Friday night.
Car salesman Ernie Boch Jr. will host Trump for a $100-a-head fundraiser at his Norwood mansion. Boch has said he wants to provide a platform to give people insight into Trump’s thoughts and opinions. He has also called Trump’s free-wheeling approach to political discourse “refreshing.’’
Trump has made waves in the presidential campaign for his statements on undocumented immigrants, prisoners of war, and FOX News anchor Megyn Kelly.
According to The Boston Herald, Boch is expecting 1,000 people at the fundraiser. Trump’s speech at the function will be broadcast by CNN.
Boch is also expecting pro-choice protesters outside the home, who said they may protest other anti-abortion Republican candidates in the future. Boch seems okay with their presence. “Nobody wants someone protesting them, but what are you going to do? … Everyone should have a voice,’’ Boch told the Herald.
Trump’s history with the Boston area is long and at times acrimonious. It has included criticism of using salt to clear snow, a flirtation with owning the New England Patriots, and this summer, a mini-feud with Mayor Marty Walsh.
Last week, two Boston men attacked a Mexican national, with one man saying “Trump was right’’ after the act. (Trump denounced the action.)
Some Massachusetts voters, however, may be wooed by Trump’s unabashed support for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady throughout the Deflategate saga.
