How much would going solar save you? Google wants you to find out

Google wants you to consider going solar.

A new tool from the tech giant called Project Sunroof uses Google Maps data to analyze how many hours of sunlight your roof gets per year. It then shows the amount of money you could save in energy costs by installing solar panels on the roof. If you’re into it, Google will then connect you with a company that can do the installing.

Boston is one of three locations in which Google is piloting Project Sunroof. According to a video announcing Project Sunroof (seen below), a team out of Google’s Cambridge office led the project. Project Sunlight is also available in San Francisco and Fresno.
