Video: Two Days Before Thanksgiving Means Chaos at Market Basket
The Market Basket grocery shopping experience tends to be a chaotic one under normal circumstances, so you can imagine that things get even more wild in the run-up to Thanksgiving. Market Basket Operations Director David McLean told Boston.com that the Tuesday ahead of the holiday has historically seen the highest sales for the week, so we decided to go take a look at the pandemonium inside the recently opened Revere store yesterday afternoon.
The bustle in the aisles, of course, stands in stark contrast to the scene at Market Basket stores over the summer, when employee protests and customer boycotts over the firing of CEO Arthur T. Demoulas brought the company to a standstill. Demoulas would eventually strike a still-pending deal to buy the chain, bringing it back to life.
The Revere store, where the above video was shot, opened in late October, after its launch was delayed more than a year by the tension between Demoulas and the company’s board of directors. Its opening was followed by the opening of the new Littleton store. A new Waltham store will open next, and stores in Attleboro and Athol are planned for early 2015 openings.
