BRA Approves Hotel, Residential Building Downtown

The Boston Redevelopment Authority gave the go-ahead on a 90-room hotel on Canal Street Thursday night. BRA

The Boston Redevelopment Authority approved a bunch of new construction across the city, including a 90-room boutique hotel on Canal Street near North Station and a 44-unit condo building with ground-level retail space on India Street, along the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway.

In addition to the Canal Street hotel and the condo building on India Street, the BRA also gave the green light to:

—Six new buildings (five of which will stand one story and contain multiple units) for manufacturing and industrial purposes at a former railyard next to the Readville commuter rail station in Hyde Park. The six buildings will total 375,000 square feet.

—A $40,000 redevelopment at the Brighton Marine Health Center to offer 101 housing units, which will be aimed at veterans.

—Two South Boston housing proposals—one at 933 East Second Street and another at 45 L Street—offering a combined 50 residential units.

The projects, approved Thursday night, will bring approximately 195 new housing units to the city, and combined project costs will top $150 million. Total construction will amount to about 674,000 square feet.
