Gambling Board Won’t Decide on Boston-Area Casino This Week

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is considering bids to build resort casinos by Mohegan Sun in Revere (above) and Wynn Resorts in Everett (below).

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will not decide on where a Boston-area casino will be built before early next week.

The board has given competitors Wynn Resorts and Mohegan Sun recommended conditions for receiving the license. The gaming companies will now have until Friday at 5 p.m. to respond to the conditions. The board will resume discussions on Monday at 11 a.m.

For Wynn, the board recommended that the company consider an exterior redesign, the Associated Press reports, and that it consider further traffic mitigation efforts in Sullivan Square, among other recommendations. And for Mohegan Sun, the board recommended in part that it find further equity in financing its proposed casino.

The board scheduled meetings throughout this week, as well as early next week if necessary. It had been possible the board would choose between Wynn’s Everett proposal and Mohegan Sun’s in Revere by Friday, but no decision will be made before early next week.

Here’s a full look at what has happened throughout the week’s discussions.
