8 things to know about World Series tickets
-

The Red Sox have a chance to make history at Fenway Park by winning a World Series at home for the first time since 1918.
Ticket prices for games 6 and 7 are rising to match the possibility of such a historic win. In fact, tickets to Game 6 on the secondary market have the potential to be the most expensive to be sold for a World Series game in recent years.
While ticket prices on the secondary market are fluid, here’s a roundup of fun facts about the market that has emerged to see the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals in the Fall Classic.

Average ticket price for Game 6

The current average price for secondary market tickets to see the potentially historic game on Wednesday at Fenway Park is $2,055, which is an 11 percent increase from where ticket prices were on Tuesda, according to TiqIQ.
Ace Ticket is listing tickets beginning at $1,035 for that game and StubHub is listing tickets priced from $765 to $12,652 for a seat in the EMC Club.

Game 2 had the most expensive average ticket price of the games played so far

The average ticket price on the secondary market to see Game 2 at Fenway Park (pictured) was $1,212, according to TiqIQ. That’s the most expensive average ticket price of all the games that have been played. Too bad the Red Sox lost.
Game 6 has the potential to break that record if the average ticket price of $2,055 stands. The get-in price for this game has risen 77 percent since the start of Game 5, and the average price has risen more than 26 percent over the same period, TiqIQ, said.
Game 2 of the 2010 World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers had an average ticket price on the secondary market of $1,786, TIqIQ said. That series had the highest secondary market average ticket prices of any World Series in recent years.
Game 6 is also now comparable to the 2013 Super Bowl between the Baltimore Ravens and San Franisco 49ers, which had an average price of $2,199 and a get-in cost of $1,062, TiqIQ said.

What if there’s a Game 7?

The average prices on the secondary market are high, but still lower than the ticket prices going for Game 6. TiqIQ is listing an average price of $1,838 and a get-in price of $823. On AceTicket, prices range from $870 to $17,500. TicketNetwork.com lists Game 7 tickets between $685 and $7,300 StubHub is advertising tickets priced between $810 and $24,067.

Game 5 had the least expensive average ticket so far

The average ticket price on the secondary market to see Game 5 in St. Louis was $479, with a get-in price of $217, TiqIQ said. Ticket prices for that game started falling after the Cardinals lost Game 4, eliminating the possibility of St. Louis clinching the series at home. The Red Sox went on to win Game 5 to put them on the brink of winning their third World Series title in 10 years.

Prices for Game 1 fell leading up to the first pitch

Blame it on the weather reports. The average ticket price on the secondary market for seats at the first game fell from $1,525 on Oct. 19 to $756 on game day, according to figures provided by TiqIQ.
Ace Ticket founder Jim Holzman said fear of bad weather at Fenway Park pushed down ticket prices. Hours before the game, Ace Ticket had listings for seats beginning at $349 for Game 1. Another site, TicketMarket.com, had tickets prices beginning at $282.
And though the rain did not materialize, it was a chilly night at the park.

Prices overall aren’t likely to reach 2004 heights

Fans paid $1,200 to $1,400 to see the Red Sox win the World Series for the first time in 86 years back in 2004, according to a Boston Globe report. Those prices fell when the Sox returned to the World Series in 2007 with tickets selling for $700 to $750.
Holzman estimated ticket prices for this year’s World Series are about half of what they were in 2004.
“You probably won’t see that again,’’ Holzman said.

Tickets were cheaper in St. Louis

The average ticket price on the secondary market to see the World Series at Busch Stadium was $744, TiqIQ said. By contrast, the average ticket price at Fenway Park is $1,373. Overall, the current average series price is $1,025, TiqIQ said.

Average prices have been higher

In recent years, the most expensive average World Series ticket was sold for the 2010 Fall Classic between the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers, according to TiqIQ. The average ticket price for that series was $1,317 with fans paying an average of $1,701 to watch the game in San Francisco. The average cost of going to a game in Texas was $1,293, TiqIQ said.
The Giants, pictured, won that series.
