Here’s a look at Somerville Brewing Company’s new #ThanksObama beer

It's a nitro stout.

Somerville Brewing Company is lifting a pint to President Barack Obama’s eight years in office.

More specifically, it’s a pint of beer in his name.

As Somerville Brewing announced earlier this week, they’re sending off the outgoing president on his last day in office with a special #ThanksObama beer. Somerville Brewing cofounder and owner Caitlin Jewell says it’s “a warming and heartfelt message of Thank You for a job well done.”

But how does it actually taste?

Jewell says the creamy nitro stout clocks in at 5.5 percent alcohol by volume and has hints of coffee and chocolate.

“It is important to note that this is NOT a ‘Russian’ Stout and this is NOT an ‘Imperial’ Stout,” she added in an email.

Somerville Brewing is releasing the beer at an all-day event next Thursday, January 19, at their Ward Street brewery. They’re expecting the celebration to be packed.

“We’re expecting it to be very busy and quite a party Thursday night,” said the brewery in a Facebook update Thursday afternoon.

Because #ThanksObama is a nitro stout, the company said they will not be packaging it in cans or growlers, and thus the beer will only be available by the glass at their taproom. They expect supplies to last seven to 12 days.

At their release day next Thursday, the brewery is also putting together a #ThanksObama card for guests to sign, which they say they will send to the Obama family. So that’s one way to turn around a meme.
