Nearly 100 cats and dogs will soon be up for adoption in Massachusetts after they were relocated from Texas following last month’s deadly and frigid winter storm that rocked the Lone Star state.
MSPCA-Angell and Northeast Animal Shelter transported 91 cats and dogs after many animal shelters in Texas lost power, suffered damage, or otherwise became overwhelmed with an influx of animals needing homes in the wake of the storm, according to the two organizations.
Two teams split among four vans left for Texas on Feb. 23 and returned on Feb. 26 with the four-legged passengers in tow.

WCVB reported Monday the two organizations were preparing the animals for adoption.
“We have three veterinarians going right now, as well as all of our tech personnel, making sure that each of them get a thorough exam, look for any issues they may have, and when they’re clearing from isolation, we’re looking for any contagious diseases,” said Mike Keiley, director of adoption centers and programs for MSPCA-Angell and the interim executive director of the Northeast Animal Shelter.
According to the MSPCA-Angell website, the animals could be available for adoption on Tuesday at the earliest once they have completed all the necessary checks and quarantine requirements. Available cats and dogs will be posted on the organization’s adoptable animal search page as soon as they are ready for their forever home.
