Police looking for suspect who abandoned German Shepherd in Salem

The older dog was reportedly left tied up outside the Northeast Animal Shelter on Jan. 24.

Authorities in Salem are seeking answers after a German Shepherd was left outside in the middle of the night tied to a pole in front of the Northeast Animal Shelter.The dog, described by police as a “beautiful, older female,” was abandoned on Jan. 24 and is now recovering and adjusting to shelter life.Salem police took to Facebook on Wednesday to ask for the public’s help finding her owner who reportedly drove away in a minivan.  “Do you know me?” They wrote, attaching a photo of her lying beside a chew toy.

Abandoning an animal on the side of the road, according to the state’s general animal cruelty laws, is a felony.
