A 3-pound Yorkie was ‘thrown away like garbage’ in Dorchester. Now he’s up for adoption.
“Oscar could easily have died in that dumpster and we’re relieved and grateful that he’s been saved.”
A three-pound Yorkie pulled from a dumpster in Dorchester is now up for adoption at the MSPCA’s Angell shelter. A good Samaritan found “Oscar” in a dumpster on Blue Hill Avenue and rushed him to the organization’s Angell Animal Medical Center on May 21, according to a release from the MSPCA. His fur was matted, and he was thin, dehydrated, and neurologically impaired — most likely due to nutritional deficiency.

Shelter officials believe the two- or three-year-old dog had not been fed for at least a week. He perked up soon after eating and is now well-adjusted, loving, and attention-seeking, his caretakers say.
Oscar will be placed for adoption in the coming days, according to the MSPCA — after he undergoes neuter surgery and a thorough dental cleaning. Interested adopters can visit him in person or email [email protected].
“It’s always shocking to see this level of disregard for animals — in this case a dog that was literally thrown away like garbage,” Adoption Center Associate Director Anna Rafferty-Foré said in a statement. “Oscar could easily have died in that dumpster and we’re relieved and grateful that he’s been saved.”
