Boston firefighters rescued a golden retriever who swam too far from shore
Kai, 12, was about 200 feet from shore when officials arrived.
When Kai the golden retriever swam out too far off Pleasure Bay in South Boston, the city fire department came to the rescue.The department was called to the scene, across from the skating rink, around 9:40 a.m. Sunday, officials said on Twitter.

A couple of the fire department’s divers were able to use their Zodiac inflatable boat to reach Kai and pull the dog safely aboard. Kai had already been in the water for about a half hour to 40 minutes before officials got to the scene, they said.

“The rescue happened approximately 200 feet from shore,” officials said. “The owner stated that Kai likes to swim but went out a little too far and wasn’t able to swim back.”

Kai was brought to shore where emergency responders treated the 12-year-old dog before the owner brought the dog to the veterinarian.
“The companies just had water rescue training last week and it showed today,” officials said on Twitter, adding that it was a “happy ending.”
The department didn’t have further information on Kai’s condition as of Monday afternoon, a spokesperson said.
