Bostonians know just how difficult it can be to navigate the city’s busy streets.

On Thursday night, Sky, a young female husky, found out for herself after the canine broke loose from her owner on a walk, bolted through the Thomas P. O’Neill Jr. Tunnel, and took a quick jaunt through the North End before local firefighters coaxed her inside with a tasty treat or two, officials said.

An Uber driver initially reported seeing Sky in the O’Neill tunnel before she exited the highway and ran down Hanover Street, Marc Sanders, a Boston firefighter and department spokesman, told Boston.com Friday.

Firefighters of Engine 8 and Ladder 1 in the nearby North End firehouse were notified by passersby that a dog was seen weaving between vehicles on the busy thoroughfare, Sanders said.

The first responders were able to corral Sky, who didn’t have a collar, by tempting her with dog treats that Sanders said the firehouse keeps on hand for the area’s four-legged neighbors.

“The fact that the dog was unharmed, it’s a very fortunate situation that had a happy ending,” he said.

Once inside, Sky enjoyed some treats and watched the Red Sox take down the Astros and clinch the American League championship title, according to Sanders.

Sky appeared unharmed, according to Sanders. She was reunited with her owner around 10:30 p.m. after the owner called Boston police and authorities made the connection between departments, he said.

Sky had apparently been out for a walk with her owner earlier in the night before she somehow got out of her collar and “just bolted” away, Sanders said.
