These 2 Mass. State Police dogs are retiring — and are in need of forever homes

Two Massachusetts State Police dogs are retiring from service, and are in need of “loving forever homes,” police said in a Facebook post.
The majority of retired police canines end up going to live with their handlers. However, in certain circumstances—such as those with Klauss and Alex—they do become available to the public.
The younger of the pair, 5-and-a-half-year-old Klauss, is a “Malinois mix dual-trained in patrol and human remains detection,” according to police. Klauss is being put up for adoption because his handler was promoted outside of the K-9 unit and already has a retired dog at home, with no space for a second.
Alex, an 8-year-old German Shepherd “trained in patrol and narcotics detection,” is anticipated to be made available by the department, as he has reached retirement age and his handler is unable to keep him, police said.
