Red fox with white pups spotted in Connecticut Valley region

A Massachusetts resident in the Connecticut Valley region was treated to a “unique” sight recently, according to the state’s Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. Carolyn Fiester spotted a red fox with four leucistic kits, meaning the pups have partial pigment loss causing them to have a white or pale coat. Red foxes have evolved to be their regular rusty color over time to provide them with camouflage and the best chance of survival,” the wildlife officials said on Facebook. “Lighter colored foxes may have a harder time blending in to ambush and kill prey. They may also become prey more easily to larger carnivores.”Both red and gray foxes are common in Massachusetts and can thrive in suburban and urban areas, according to the state agency
