Here’s how you can ‘claim’ a deer if you hit one in Mass.
Here’s another Massachusetts law you may not know: Any resident can claim a deer if they hit and kill one with their motor vehicle, the Massachusetts Environmental Police reminded in a Facebook post last week.

According to the post, the law states that if a Massachusetts resident kills a deer with their motor vehicle, they can can claim and take the remains of the deer. The resident then must call Massachusetts Environmental Police and report the collision to police, and has 24 hours to present the deer for tagging.
No part of a salvaged deer can be sold or traded, according to the post.
Similar laws are found in several other states, such as Idaho, Michigan, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
