Massachusetts State Police

rescued a dog from a car that had an interior temperature of more than 100 degrees at a Hull beach Thursday afternoon.

A group of people alerted a trooper on duty at a Nantasket Beach to the dog in the vehicle. Upon arriving, he found the trapped dog in car with the windows cracked and without any water, police said.

Officials contacted a tow truck to unlock the car and set the dog free. They determined that the inside temperature of the car was 115 degrees. The outside temperature was 84 degrees at the time.

Police advised pet owners not to leave their animals behind in the car during hot summer months.

“On a sunny day, even with the windows cracked, your car will heat up rapidly,” police said in a Facebook post. “Do not leave your beloved pets in the sweltering heat. It could be catastrophic.”
