300-pound bear caught snacking at bird feeder in Orange
A 300-pound bear spotted snacking on garbage and bird feeders in Orange during the last week has been relocated by police.
Environmental police responded Monday evening to find the bear standing upright, retrieving a bird feeder for dinner. Officers tranquilized the bear and moved it to an undisclosed rural location, according to police.
The bear was monitored while it recovered from the sedative.
“Homeowners are cautioned that bears finding food sources will often revisit that site, drawing bears closer to people, resulting in bears losing their fear of people, a process called habituation,” police said in a statement.
Police asked anyone who spots a bear in a developed area to contact Environmental police at 1-800-632-8075.
