MSPCA will hold a ‘meet and greet’ for 46 goats in need of new homes

More than 200 emails and calls have poured into the MSPCA in the day since a call for adoptive homes went out for the 46 goats surrendered to the animal protection agency earlier this month.

The public’s response has been so overwhelming that the MSPCA said Wednesday the Nevin’s Farm location will hold its first goat-specific “meet and greet ” on Saturday in Methuen, where the goats are being temporarily housed.

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the MSPCA will accept applications, secure references, and review home environment scenarios to make sure the potential new home is safe and comfortable for the goat. The hope is that the goats will be adopted in pairs or groups.

The MSPCA is also accepting donations related to the care of the goats. The animal protection agency has spent more than $3,000 on veterinary care, food, and fencing for an outdoor area for the goats, which were surrendered by a farmer who became overwhelmed by how quickly the animals reproduced.
