Q.

I just had a breakup with my girlfriend after finding emails about her seeing her ex-boyfriend for lip injections. He runs a med spa and specializes in botox, among other things. He was giving her free injections. When I caught them I realized that when she was seeing him, she had told me she was other places – like at her mom’s or at doctors appointments.

After the breakup I noticed on my E-ZPass pass that she was driving into the area where his med spa was, but also to where he lives. The E-ZPass was clocking her in the area for long stretches of time. This is weeks after the breakup, and I say “Hey, what is this!?” She comes up with a story that since he’s a doctor, he was giving her free radiation (she had cervical cancer once upon a time) in the hospital during those hours. Too crazy to be true? Free lip injections and radiation?

A med spa owner and part-time … gynecologist? I never stood a chance. What do you think?

A.

I think it would be radiation oncology. I have not heard of a doctor that specializes in botox and radiation oncology.

It does sound suspicious, and if she needed more treatment for her health problems, you’d think she would have told you.

But you understand all of this. You know that she was lying, and you suspected it all along. That’s why you found the emails. I assume you went searching for them.

There’s a world in which this woman was friends with her ex, wanted free botox, and received those treatments without betraying you. People can be friends with exes. Please be open to that concept, especially when someone is transparent about their relationships.

The lack of transparency is the real issue here. Your now-ex wasn’t required to tell you everything, but she was keeping so much to herself.

You never want to get to a place where you’re checking an E-ZPass record. In a great relationship, you can ask a question and assume the answer is true.

Keep that in mind as you date new people … when you’re ready.

Readers? Any chance the story can be true? If you’re checking E-ZPass records, is it over no matter what?
