Hey Boston, do you want this futuristic McDonald’s?
McDonald’s and “futuristic’’ almost feel like oxymorons at this point. The restaurant chain’s quick/cheap burger and fries menu recalls an earlier time when calorie counts and saturated fats didn’t matter. But if photos of this Golden Arches location in Hong Kong are any indication, Ronald McDonald may still have some forward-thinking ideas up his sleeve.
The restaurant is trying out decidedly different menu options.
The whole vibe feels more like a cafe.
You can even use a touch screen to order from anywhere in the restaurant.
By our estimation, here are the pros and cons to a modernized Mickey D’s in Boston:
Pros:
— Eating a McFlurry on stainless steel countertops brings you one step closer to the life of a child millionaire.
— Bringing a first date to McDonald’s will result in them leaving immediately only 50% of the time (down from 98%).
— Futuristic McDonald’s = futuristic ball pits?
Cons:
— A sleek new McDonald’s with an all-day breakfast menu could threaten Dunkin’ Donuts.
— The Hamburglar in a space suit looks really dumb.
— McDonald’s Lobster Roll will probably still exist.
