Necco has been pumping timeless candies out of Revere since 1847, becoming a local staple over the course of a century and a half. Classics, like the Necco Wafer and the Skybar, continue to grace convenience store shelves many years later. Newer options, like Zombie Food and Clark Bites, keep the company crafty.
Necco has produced many different flavors, from Squirrel Nut Zippers to Peach Blossoms, which are no longer sold in stores. But in honor of Halloween this month, we taste-tested all of Necco’s flavors that are currently on the market and ranked them.
The criteria for judging is as follows:
Texture: Too chalky or rich? Too oozy? Too chewy?
Accuracy: How does the flavor match the description? For example, does the caramel taste like caramel?
Appearance: Does it even look appetizing?
Overall Flavor: Is it good? Is it bad? How good is it? How bad is it?
With these four factors taken into consideration, four judges rated the candy flavors with a score of 0.1 to 5.0. The scores were then averaged to produce a ranking.
