Drink some beer with animals at Franklin Park Zoo

The sixth annual Brew at the Zoo festival brings local beers to the zoo.

If you think drinking beer solely among humans is becoming passe, here’s one event that you should mark on your calendar. The sixth annual Brew at the Zoo on August 15 will bring your typical beer festival to a pretty atypical setting: the Franklin Park Zoo.

More than 40 breweries and 15 food vendors will be stationed around the zoo, and every exhibit will be open, with the exception of the butterfly garden. Perhaps you’ll enjoy a Smuttynose while you watch the giraffes and zebras, a Sam Adams in the Aussie Aviary, or maybe a Lagunitas while you observe the gorillas. Either way, there will be beer, and there will be animals.

“It’s a unique opportunity for people to come to the zoo, have fun and see incredible animals,’’ says Brooke Wardrop, director of communication at Zoo New England. “Proceeds from Brew at the Zoo will support the operation and continued growth of Zoo New England’s Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo, its education programs and conservation initiatives.’’

Brew at the Zoo is a 21+ event. A complete beer and vendor listing and tickets are available on the Zoo New England website for $55 in advance or for $65 at the door.
