Recipe for Jack Snax
Makes 13 cups
A spicy spin on Chex party mix, with a touch of sweetness to balance the heat, this snack mix is a specialty of Jack Garvin, manager of the Warren Store.
3cups rice Chex cereal3cups wheat Chex cereal3cups corn Chex cereal1cup roasted, unsalted peanuts1cup mini pretzels (twists or rods, or a combination)1¼cups sesame sticks¾cup wasabi peas ½cup cheddar fish⅓cup canola oil3tablespoons soy sauce3tablespoons hot sauce2tablespoons brown sugar1heaping tablespoon curry powder1teaspoon cayenne pepper, or more to taste½teaspoon salt
1. Set the oven at 250 degrees. Have on hand 2 large rimmed baking sheets.
2. In a large bowl, combine the rice Chex, wheat Chex, and corn Chex. Add the nuts, pretzels, sesame sticks, wasabi peas, and cheddar fish. Stir to mix.
3. In another bowl, combine the oil, soy sauce, hot sauce, brown sugar, curry powder, cayenne pepper, and salt. Dip a piece of cereal into the mixture, taste it, and add more cayenne if you like.
4. Slowly pour the liquid over the cereal mixture, stirring to evenly coat. Divide the mixture between the baking sheets.
5. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool completely. Store in an airtight container. Adapted from Warren Store
