5 best new restaurant openings and dining updates in Boston (April 23, 2026)

In Greater Boston’s dining scene, there’s always a new restaurant opening to celebrate or a fresh update coming to one of the city’s delicious eateries. In the months ahead, we have major restaurant openings from Michelin chefs and famous New York restaurateurs, as well as a swell of diverse and delicious smaller restaurants joining our neighborhoods.

Each week, Boston.com will highlight the restaurant openings worth knowing about across the region. Some spots will already be open, while others are set to debut in 2026. At least one featured restaurant will always be a bonus item — either a pop-up, a collaboration, or event at area restaurants.

What’s new in Greater Boston restaurant openings this week

Avra Estiatorio

It’s another major opening at Lyrik Back Bay with Avra Estiatorio, an upscale, New York-based Greek restaurant. The space is massive and worthy of occasions, seating 250 people, and the restaurant serves a menu that focuses on Aegean coastal cuisine (as seen by its in-restaurant fish market) that includes dishes like a Greek sea bass ceviche, Chilean sea bass “Plaki,” and whole fish flown in daily from the Mediterranean.

Foxglove Terrace

From the Comfort Kitchen team comes a rooftop cocktail bar at Allston’s new Atlas Hotel, which is where the acclaimed culinary team’s other new restaurant, Ama, is located. It isn’t immediately clear what’s on the menu, but Will Isaza (formerly of Birds of Paradise and Blossom Bar) is the general manager. Guests can also make reservations for dinner at the bar.

Mother’s East Tavern

Taking over the Telegraph Hill bar space in Southie is Mother’s East Tavern, a new pub coming from husband-wife Alec Barber and Laura Fryer and chef-partner David Quinlan. According to an interview with The Boston Globe, Barber said the menu will initially include high-quality pub staples, like shepherd’s pie with braised lamb, but eventually they want to add more creative dishes to the tavern’s menu.

Rocco’s Sports & Rec

A New York-based sports bar is headed to the Seaport — but don’t worry, the space is decked out in Boston sports memorabilia and art only. The menu will also feature classic sports bar meals, along with some Boston touches, like the lobster salad clubhouse sandwich, a shareable calamari, a trio dip board, chicken wings, an ice cream sundae delivered in a batting helmet, and an oreo cookie skillet. For drinks, Rocco’s is serving a rotating lineup of Boston-area brews and a cocktail list that leans into the sports theme, with drinks like the Serena Chilliams (a fruitier French 75) and the mezcal and pineapple Hey Kid, Catch.

Bonus: Vialé oyster roast

What better way is there to celebrate the return of patios than with live music and all-you-can-eat oysters? The crews at Vialé and Althea are hosting this annual event on Vialé’s patio. No ticket is required, but to take part in seeing just how many fire-roasted oysters you can eat, it costs $40. Other foods, like Althea’s smoky corn chowder and pulled pork sliders, come a la carte at additional costs.
