It seemed like the end of one Uno Pizzeria & Grill location in Greater Boston — until a general manager stepped up to reopen a branch of the Chicago deep dish pizza chain.

WBZ-TV first reported the news that Revere’s Uno Pizzeria had reopened five weeks after it and multiple other locations had shut its doors in January.

Amalia Korom told NBC10 Boston that she bought the closed Revere location and gave it a much-needed, major revamp before reopening it again. She also brought back all of the employees that were there when it closed, according to WBZ.

“I just could not let this go,” Korom told NBC10 Boston. “There’s a lot of guys that have great memories here and our staff combined has over 100 years of employment.”

The Revere pizzeria has been located at the Northgate Shopping Center for 34 years, and many of the other Uno Pizzeria locations around Greater Boston similarly were open for more than 30 years.

The chain claims it invented the deep dish pizza at its original location in Chicago, known as Pizzeria Uno. Uno locations still serve deep dish pizza, known for its thick crust and being a pizza that requires a fork and knife to eat it. The chain’s menu has expanded to include other pizza styles, burgers, pasta, and more.

The corporate office of the chain is now based in Norwood, Massachusetts.

In a statement provided in January, the company said they chose to close “underperforming” locations.

“Given market forces such as rising food costs, taxes, rents, and labor costs along with consumers changing dining habits, we had to take a hard internal look at all of our locations and close a few locations that were running tight margins,” the statement said.

The saved Revere location is now the lone Greater Boston Uno Pizzeria. Eight locations in New England remain.
