It isn’t news that Malden is the place to be for a delicious meal, but fortunately for area diners, this Boston suburb’s restaurant scene only continues to grow.
In Malden Center, just off the Orange Line, you could have American barbecue one night, plates of dim sum the next, and drink bubble tea, martini, or beer at various cafes and bars.
And that’s just in the downtown area. Venture out further into this suburb of 66,000 people, you’ll find donuts at diners, authentic Ethiopian cuisine, and the town really shows up when it comes to Asian food offerings.
Lately Malden has gained a Hong Kong-style cafe, Japanese-Thai fusion, and a worker-owned coffee shop.
Malden has long been immigrant-friendly, attracting diverse businesses to its community, and younger adults flocked to new developments and what was once affordable housing. But as is the problem everywhere in Greater Boston, affordability is increasingly non-existent.
It begs the question: Can you still find high-quality meals for under $20 in Malden?
When it comes to dining out in Greater Boston, it’s harder than ever to find a meal that doesn’t break the bank.
But we at Boston.com accept the challenge to locate budget bites. Our new project aims to help readers find high-quality, inexpensive meals in Boston’s suburbs, publishing new guides to one town or city over the course of a year.
If you missed our previous guides, you can find one for Somerville, Quincy, and Waltham. Now it’s Malden’s turn.
Before we put out our guide, we want to ask our readers for help first.
Can you still get a decent meal for under $20 in Malden? It should be a meal that one would consider filling, either a single entree, a collection of appetizers or small plates that make a meal, or a combo or meal deal.
When sending in your recommendation, please include the restaurant, menu item, price, specify if it’s for lunch or dinner, and tell us why it’s a genuinely delicious budget meal. Fill out the form below, or email your response to [email protected]. Your answer may be featured in a future guide.
