After 15 years serving the South Coast, Perry’s Last Stand in Wareham is closing its doors.

The beloved ice cream shop announced the “completely unexpected and extremely surprising” closure in a Facebook post on Oct. 19, saying the decision came after their landlord terminated the lease. The shop’s ice cream trucks will still be in service starting this spring, and will also be available for events. Gift certificates purchased at the shop can still be used at the trucks.

“We are truly saddened that we are being forced to close the ice cream shop that my mother started in 1992 and ran until she passed away in 2004. We feel that we have built on her legacy and we wished that we could have continued. However, this was completely out of our control,” the post reads.

“We would like to thank all of our employees, loyal customers, and friends who have supported us over the last 15 years. We will continue to see you on our trucks again starting this Spring.”

The post received an outpouring of support from hundreds of commenters. The ice cream parlor, located on 2704 Cranberry Hwy, was a staple for residents around the South Coast and Cape Cod. It served more than 70 hard ice cream flavors and 16 rotating soft serve flavors including “local favorites,” creamsicle and mocha, according to its website.
