The Friendly’s in Pembroke has closed.
A staff member from the Norwood Friendly’s confirmed that the Pembroke branch at 146 Church Street has permanently closed. The location is no longer listed on the company’s website.
Friendly’s, the Massachusetts-born chain known for its ice cream sundaes and classic dinner fare, was founded in 1935 in Springfield. In recent years, however, many locations have shuttered amid the brand’s restructuring.
Between 2020 and 2023, Friendly’s closed 23 restaurants across the Northeast —part of what CEO Sherif Mityas described as a strategy to update its business. “Sometimes to grow you have to shrink,” he told Forbes in March 2024.
The same month, Friendly’s also closed its last Boston location at Logan Airport’s Terminal A.
The company’s website lists the following Massachusetts locations still open: Agawam, Attleboro, Auburn, Chicopee, East Longmeadow, Fall River, Florence, Gardner, Haverhill, Holyoke, Leominster, Marlborough, Middleborough, North Dartmouth, Norwood, Peabody, Pittsfield, Plymouth, South Weymouth, Springfield, Swansea, and Westfield.
